The University of California, Agriculture and Natural Resources (UC ANR), a statewide program with local development and delivery, is seeking a Broadband Deployment and Utilization UC Cooperative Extension (UCCE) Advisor.
Location Headquarters: Butte County, CA
Purpose. The Broadband Deployment & Utilization Advisor will implement an innovative extension education and applied research program to address high priority needs and problems to increase community and economic development with an emphasis on the expansion of broadband adoption, implementation, policy, and evaluation.
The position will include a community and economic development component, working closely with regional economic development, academic, industry, and governmental organizations to promote regional prosperity through collaborative efforts.
The advisor will work to support the advancing of rural broadband adoption, as well as other rural utility services (e.g., novel approaches to increase rural adoption of improved practices such as precision agriculture for farms).
The advisor will take an active role in public outreach as the regional lead for broadband and rural utility expansion to support rural community resiliency in Butte and adjacent counties. High priority subject areas include the economics of rural broadband, broadband for the agriculture and rural healthcare sectors, new models for delivering broadband service, and expansion of broadband to unserved and underserved regional households.
Counties of Responsibility. This position will be headquartered in Butte County and also serve Tehama and Glenn Counties.
Education: A minimum of a Master’s degree in community development, agricultural economics, public policy, social studies, rural sociology, agribusiness, or related fields is required at the time of appointment.

- Solid understanding of practical information technology application and needs in communities.
- Live within a commutable distance of the position headquarters during period of appointment.
- Educational and professional background in economic development
- Passion and desire to pursue a career in Cooperative Extension and community development
- Experience in building partnerships with multidisciplinary teams
- Demonstrated ability to effectively plan, manage teams and implement an applied research and outreach program, including setting measurable goals and objectives
