Participants will have opportunities to:
- Learn about the ANR's Vision and Mission.
- Learn about ANR structure and individual programs and units.
- Interact with ANR leadership and directors.
- Meet and network with new colleagues from around the state.
- Get answers to burning questions about health benefits, AggieTravel and more.
Who Should Attend: UC ANR employees – academics and staff – who have not participated in an administrative orientation in the past. Priority will be given to those hired by ANR within the past year.
A note to academics: We've been asked how the Administrative Orientation differs from the Programmatic Orientation and should academics attend both orientations. The short answer is, Yes, it's beneficial to attend both sessions.
- The Programmatic Orientation is designed to help academics jump start their programs by focusing on program design and showcasing successful projects of other ANR academics.
- Although the Administrative Orientation introduces statewide programs, it focuses on administrative units and services and provides an overview of ANR structure, vision and mission.
Schedules and materials from past orientations can be viewed online at http://ucanr.edu/sites/orientations/Past_Orientations.

UC ANR programmatic orientation for new academics, August 19-21
ANR is announcing a programmatic orientation for new academics who have joined ANR in the past five years – UCCE advisors, UCCE specialists and AES faculty. All new academics are strongly urged to participate.
Vice President Allen-Diaz and Associate Vice President Frost will participate in the entire orientation to get to know our new academics and offer their perspectives on the division and our work. To participate in this orientation, please sign up at 2014 UC ANR Programmatic Orientation for New Academics (http://ucanr.edu/survey/survey.cfm?surveynumber=13224).
UC ANR is a statewide organization committed to the successful development of new academic professionals. The current orientation for new academics focuses primarily on administrative topics. While the administrative orientation is important, this programmatic orientation will focus entirely on ANR programs, impacts and collaborations. It will provide
- an introduction to the statewide vision and mission of ANR and its structure and programs (agriculture, natural resources, nutrition and youth development);
- the roles and expectations for newly hired academics, to design a plan for a successful career, according to each position and location (e.g. UCCE or AES, county or campus-based);
- experiences from colleagues with successful practices and projects; and
- finally, this orientation will be a great opportunity for networking with other colleagues, and learning what resources and potential collaborations are available.
One full day of the orientation will be a bus tour that showcases ANR programs in agriculture, natural resources, nutrition and youth development, and offers an opportunity to interact with clientele and program staff. Senior academics will also be on hand to offer perspectives on their careers and to discuss how they got started. The remaining time will be devoted to workshops and networking.
The orientation will last two days from noon on Tuesday, Aug. 19, to noon on Thursday, Aug. 21, and will be held at the Kearney Agricultural Research and Extension Center. Meals and lodging will be provided, and travel will be reimbursed. An additional workshop will be planned for three months after this orientation to follow up with participants.
If you will be attending, would like more information or would like to recommend someone to attend, please respond at 2014 UC ANR Programmatic Orientation for New Academics (http://ucanr.edu/survey/survey.cfm?surveynumber=13224).
