Apply for UC staff management-skills assessment by Feb. 11
Applications are now being accepted for the 2015 Management Skills Assessment Program (MSAP). This staff program is designed to assess the management skills of high potential, early career supervisors, managers and professionals for future leadership opportunities at the University of California (academics are not eligible to participate). This year an integrated MSAP program is being offered with both northern and southern locations participating in one program that will include participants from the entire UC system. The program is scheduled for April 20 – 23, 2015, at the UCLA Conference Center in Lake Arrowhead.
UC ANR has just been given one slot for the Spring 2015 program, and we are seeking applicants to fill our slot. Apologies for the short notice, as applications are due Wednesday, Feb. 11.
We strongly recommend that department heads, unit leaders and directors discuss the program with supervisors, managers and professionals who exhibit potential for management development and encourage them to apply.
Eligibility requirements for staff participants include (note: academic employees are not eligible for this program):
- Classification at “___” Assistant III Supervisor, equivalent or above
- Full-time career status with a current, satisfactory (or better) performance evaluation
- Designation as a supervisor or manager
Participants will be selected based on an evaluation of the applicant's (1) career goals in management, (2) level of skills essential for performing management functions, and (3) demonstrated career path and/or strong commitment to management skill development.
The cost for the program is $1,095 (including all program materials and room and board for three days and two nights). This does not include transportation or other related travel costs. The cost of the program will be covered by ANR for the successful participant, as well as travel costs according to ANR policy.
Further information and the 2015 online MSAP application form (including applicant and supervisor components) can be found at: http://msap.ucr.edu/. Applications are completed and submitted online. An ANR committee will review all applications and make the final selection.
Completed applications must be submitted online by noon, Wednesday, February 11.

Funds available for ANR staff development
ANR will be providing funds for staff development and the continuation of the popular web-based training system, Lynda.com. The staff development funds will be provided to ANR unit heads/managers to support staff participation in development opportunities such as seminars, workshops, webinars, etc. The unit head/manager may also choose to use the funds for group trainings. Funds will be provided in the amount of $300 per UC non-represented staff employee and UCCE county-paid employee. Funds are being provided to all non-represented career, limited term, and contracted employees regardless of their source of funding.
This funding does not apply to Program Representatives who received professional development funds in July 2010. UC-ANR represented staff can make requests to the ANR Staff Personnel Unit for staff development funds in accordance with their respective bargaining unit contract.
Funds will be transferred by the Business Operations Center at Kearney or Business Operations Center at Davis to a staff program development account for each unit head/manager for allocation. These funds must be spent by June 30, 2011.
